National Park Foundation Celebrates Presidential Proclamation and Bipartisan Senate Resolution Recognizing National Park Week

WASHINGTON—Will Shafroth, president and CEO of the National Park Foundation, the official nonprofit partner to the National Park Service (NPS), issued the following statement regarding President Donald J. Trump’s proclamation and a bipartisan Senate resolution recognizing April 18 - April 26, 2020, as National Park Week:

“The National Park Foundation joins President Trump, as well as Senators Daines, King, and the many bipartisan cosponsors of the Senate Resolution in celebrating National Park Week, and affirming our collective commitment to provide all Americans with greater opportunities to experience these majestic places. Amid our nation’s efforts to combat challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, we recognize the solace of nature and spirit of resilience that our stunning landscapes, iconic cultural sites, and hallowed battlefields can provide. During these difficult times, the Foundation echoes the President’s and United States Senate’s call to appreciate the importance of the National Park System and for all people to learn more about the natural, cultural, and historical heritage enshrined in our parks.

The Foundation also recognizes our national parks’ extensive economic significance, and encourages the people of the United States and the world to virtually visit, experience, and support these places while protecting public health during the coronavirus pandemic.

In partnership with NPS, the Foundation is proud to offer the vast community of national park champions with countless opportunities to virtually connect with national parks and celebrate National Park Week from the comfort of home.”
