National Park Foundation Celebrates Bipartisan Passage of National Park Week Resolution
The National Park Foundation applauds Senators Angus King (I-ME), Steve Daines (R-MT), and all members of the United States Senate on their leadership and unanimous support of Senate Resolution 645 (S. Res. 645), which honors National Park Week and its celebration of America’s national parks.
National Park Foundation President and CEO Will Shafroth issued the following statement.
“From the remote wilderness of Denali to the historic battlefield of Gettysburg to the sawgrass marshes and mangroves of the Everglades, America’s national parks are our common ground. I am grateful for the bipartisan U.S. Senate resolution recognizing and celebrating National Park Week, and all that we share, because parks are forever and for everyone. The National Park Foundation looks forward to continuing its mission to protect national parks and to connect people to the rich natural and cultural heritage across our expansive National Park System during National Park Week and every week.”
The resolution highlights the important role national parks play to support national and local economies. Last year, park visitation surpassed 325 million recreational visits, contributing $50,300,000,000 in spending to the national economy in 2023.
