National Park Foundation Applauds House of Representatives’ Passage of Fiscal Year 2021 Interior Funding Legislation
WASHINGTON—Will Shafroth, President and CEO of the National Park Foundation, the official nonprofit partner to the National Park Service, made the following statement regarding the House of Representatives’ passage of Fiscal Year 2021 appropriations for the Department of the Interior:
“The National Park Foundation is grateful for the House of Representatives’ enactment of Fiscal Year 2021 appropriations to fund the Department of the Interior and National Park Service. The Foundation is pleased to receive $5 million as authorized under the National Park Service Centennial Act (PL-114-289, Section 402).
The Foundation appreciates the opportunity to more than double the impact of federal funds with philanthropic dollars to complete priority projects at national parks across the country. With additional support from the vibrant community of national park partners, the Foundation looks forward to advancing this important work in collaboration with the National Park Service.
The Foundation is grateful for House Committee on Appropriations’ Subcommittee on the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Chair Betty McCollum and Ranking Member Dave Joyce, as their leadership has been instrumental to making critical investments in the National Park Service, as well as the Foundation’s work. The Foundation also appreciates House Committee on Appropriations Chairwoman Nita Lowey and Ranking Member Kay Granger for their commitment to moving the appropriations process forward in a bipartisan fashion.
As the House of Representatives takes steps to address our parks’ deferred maintenance needs through a historic vote on the Great American Outdoors Act, the Foundation commends appropriators for providing robust annual funding for the National Park System.”
