Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site, the original birthplace, remembers the president's accomplishments and legacy.

Theodore Roosevelt, America's 26th president, lived at this site from his 1858 birth until he was 13 years old. Nicknamed Teedie, the young Roosevelt was a bright but sickly boy. His health was improved by an exercise program at the house's outdoor gymnasium, sparking a life-long passion for the "strenuous life."

This New York townhouse was reconstructed after Roosevelt's death in 1919 by Theodote Pope Riddle, with five restored period rooms decorated with many of its original furnishings, donated by Roosevelt's sisters and wife.
